About Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles that are the width of a hair, into specific points on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing and balance to take place.

Acupuncture helps to prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s organs and immune system. Acupuncture is helpful for:

  • Treating existing illnesses and injuries.
  • Preventing both recurrence of illnesses and new illness.
  • Improving overall health. (See list of ailments treated)

Acupuncture originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is part of the holistic system of healing known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (“TCM”).

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture can give you great improvement because we look at the body as a whole unit, not individual parts all working on their own. Acupuncture can help most things improve simultaneously, like digestion and insomnia, etc.

It is said that if you have an ailment for 3 years, it can take 3 months for the body to rectify the problems. With acupuncture treatments, I usually recommend coming in once a week for 3-4 weeks, and taking herbal medicinals which is optional. The herbal formulas speed up recovery by 50%. Once we see great recovery, I’ll then re-evaluate the treatments and suggest a maintenance schedule. I am looking for years of recovery for you, not just weeks or months.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory

As an acupuncturist, I believe that health is a manifestation of balance, both within the body itself and between the body and the external environment. When the body is internally balanced and in harmony with the external environment, Qi and blood flow smoothly through the body to nourish the organs and tissues. The side effects include: better digestions, better Sleep, less pain, etc.

The organ systems need to be in balance themselves, let alone work with the other organs. I am trained to know the individual organ functions and how to balance the whole body. That is one reason why acupuncture is successful with most health issues. I start with you chief complaint, and repair other imbalances at the same time.
